Theme:
We embrace inclusivity and realize that needed to be reflected better in the Call for Proposals. The amended theme is: “Local Histories and Genealogies in a Multicultural World”
The main session welcomes papers that discuss:
- saving and promoting historical and cultural memories
- supporting contacts and understandingbetween different local and regional communities
- therole of libraries, museums and archives in participatory projects based on multi-ethnic and multi-generational collaboration
Participants are encouraged to discuss both successes and failures in their papers.
We encourage evidence based practice and invite presentations and analysis of projects which can be of practical value to others. Submission in other formats than academic papers *such as reports and essays are welcome.
Submission Guidelines
The deadline for submitting a detailed summary (up to 250 words) and full author details is 28 February 28 March 2018.

Timeline
28 March 2018: Deadline for submitting proposals for papers. The proposals will be reviewed by representatives of the two sections.
7 April 2018: Presenters will be notified whether they have been successful.
15 June 2017: Deadline for submission of the full paper. The paper should be an original submission not published elsewhere.
The full papers will be published in the IFLA Library. We encourage authors to submit their papers to relevant professional journals after the conference.
Presentations should focus on a few central ideas or thesis. Presentations with visual slides are recommended. See https://en.wikipedia.org./wiki/PechaKucha for inspiration.
The presentations will be followed by Q&A and discussions
The session will be conducted in English. The actual papers may be written in English, Spanish, French or Russian. The proposals (abstracts), the oral presentations and the following discussions should be in English, however.
The author(s) should indicate his/her personal full contact details and include a brief biographical note with the proposals. Both summaries and full papers should be submitted online. Fax or post should be used only as a last resort. Papers should not be longer than 5000 words (about 20 pages double-spaced)

Please note
At least one of the authors must be present to deliver presentation and Q&A.
Abstracts should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.
All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2018 will be made available online via the IFLA Library under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.
Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form.
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
General comments
Travel from George Town, Penang to Kuala Lumpur: Estimated 3.5-5 hrs total – from city centre to city centre.
(George Town city centre – 45 minutes to airport, 45-60 minutes waiting, 50-60 minutes flight, 15-30 minutes collecting baggage – 45 minutes -90 minutes to city centre, depending on airport and venue of KL conference).
