Division I – Library Types joint with Division IV – Support of the Profession

Theme: "Looking for the next big thing: libraries and social networks"
IFLA’s Support of the Profession (Division I) and Support of the Profession (Division IV) invite you to submit a proposal for their joint program at the 84th IFLA World Library and Information Congress to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 24-30 August 2018.
Session theme
The Session intends to explore how libraries of every type all over the world are using social networks effectively.
We are seeking 5-6 thoughtful, high quality papers (presentations of 10-15 minutes each), sharing success stories related to social networks for:
- communication and marketing of events;
- reference or other services;
- crowdsourcing for collection management;
and, with regard to social networks, addressing how libraries:
- organize the work, centrally or at a branch level;
- develop internal and external policies;
- select the different metrics of the tools in statistical reports;
- choose the tools: the most popular…or the next “big thing”
Submission Guidelines
Full abstracts of up to 500 words should be submitted for review by Officers of the two Divisions. The abstracts (and finished presentation) must be original, previously unpublished work.

The deadline for submitting a detailed abstract, including title and full author details (name, professional affiliation, postal address, email address) is 18 March 2018.
Selection of papers by is based on the abstract, and presenters will be notified whether they have been successful by 31 March 2018.
Completed papers should not be more than 4,000 words, single spaced in Times New Roman 12 point in MS Word. They must be submitted no later than 31 May 2018. Papers and abstracts should be in English.
The author(s) should include their full contact details and brief biographical notes (no more than 200 words).
Author/s of successful papers will deliver them in person at the IFLA Congress in Kuala Lumpur, at the author’s own expense.
In accordance with IFLA’s Open Access Statement all papers presented at the WLIC 2018 will be available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.
Authors of submitted papers will need to sign IFLA’s Author form. The papers and presentations will be made available through the IFLA Library.

Submissions
All proposals must be received by 18 March 2018.
Please note
At least one of the paper’s authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Abstracts should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
